Destination Accessible is supporting people transitioning from hospital to home by providing accessible stays on the beautiful Bellarine Peninsula.
For individuals leaving hospital following injury, illness or the onset of disability, returning home is not always immediately possible. Destination Accessible offers fully accessible houses designed to bridge this gap, providing a safe and supportive environment while home modifications or longer-term housing solutions are arranged.
Destination Accessible’s CEO Christine Smith said the homes are designed to remove the stress many people experience when leaving hospital.
“Having a home that simply works for you—with accessible design, such as wheelchair accessible bathrooms, kitchens and in ceiling hoists – in a home located close to the ocean — can make an enormous difference after a hospital stay,” she said. “Our homes provide a comfortable place to recover and regain confidence while people plan their next steps.”
Christine said the support doesn’t end with accommodation. “We can also connect guests with trusted trades to help modify their own homes, and, if needed, Destination Accessible can also provide supported living services (SIL) to ensure someone has the right in home care supports in place moving forward.”
For guests with a National Disability Insurance Scheme plan that includes Medium Term Accommodation (MTA), the cost of their stay may be covered through their funding.
